If I had only 30 minutes to evaluate your marketing, I would not start by asking how often you post on social media or how many followers you have.
I would look for the gaps between visibility, leads, conversions, and revenue.
A Fractional CMO looks at marketing from the top down. The goal is not simply to create more marketing activity. It is to determine what is working, what is wasting resources, and what could create the greatest impact.
Here is where I would start.
I would visit your website and ask three questions: What do you do? Who do you help? Why should someone choose you?
If those answers are not immediately clear, your prospects may be confused too.
Next, I would examine your calls to action, forms, navigation, service pages, testimonials, case studies, and trust signals.
Getting traffic is only half the job. Your website needs to give visitors a compelling reason to take the next step.
I would review your visibility across Google, AI-powered search, business listings, social media, and other channels relevant to your audience.
Being great at what you do does not generate revenue if the right people cannot discover you.
This is where businesses often uncover major opportunities.
How quickly does someone receive a response? Where does the lead go? Is it entered into a CRM? Does someone follow up? Is there an automated nurture sequence?
Generating more leads will not solve a broken follow-up process.
I would look beyond how frequently you publish.
Does your content answer customer questions? Demonstrate expertise? Showcase results? Address objections? Give people a reason to trust your company?
Strategic content should move someone closer to choosing you.
Your website, CRM, email marketing, advertising, social media, content, and sales processes should not operate independently.
I would identify where better integration or automation could eliminate repetitive work and prevent opportunities from slipping through the cracks.
Finally, I would look at the numbers.
Which channels generate qualified leads? What converts? Where are prospects dropping off? What is producing revenue?
If your reporting stops at traffic, clicks, impressions, or followers, you may be measuring activity instead of business impact.
A good marketing audit should not leave you with a giant list of problems. It should give you priorities.
