As a social media consultant, I spend a lot of my time helping businesses create strategies to grow their social media presence and convert their followers into customers. A key element of this process is understanding the types of posts that people care about on social media. If a business isn’t posting things that users on a social platform are going to notice and engage with, it’s going to be very difficult for them to build a meaningful presence.
Since this is important for any business that wants to make the most of social media, I’m going to cover five different types of posts that can help:
Providing Tips
A great way to give people a quick win through social media is by providing tips. Not only is this something that people will remember because they find it useful, but it’s also a type of social media post that increases the likelihood of getting shared on both Facebook and Twitter.
Asking Questions
Engagement plays a big part in gaining more followers on any social platform. Giving people a reason to engage with your content instead of simply admiring it for a second motivates for them to follow you. One of the ways to encourage this type of engagement is by asking questions. Research has found that posts that ask a question get 100% more comments than other types, so be sure to experiment with a variety of different questions to see what resonates best with your target audience.
Commenting About Current Events
Social media platforms have become virtual water coolers. Since it’s where people go to discuss what’s happening in their lives and around the world, your business can get in on the conversation by commenting about relevant current events. Just be sure to avoid going into areas like politics or religion that may be viewed as controversial.
Posting Videos
Of all the different forms of content that can be posted on social media, video is the one that has exploded in popularity. And because smartphones make it easier than ever to shoot and then post a video with solid quality, this is something your business should be experimenting with consistently.
Letting People Pick
This is a variation of asking a question. But instead of leaving it open-ended, you give two options and then ask people to share which they pick. This is also something that can easily be tied into current events, such as asking whether your followers prefer “Apple or Samsung?”
If you know your business can benefit from posting this type of content but still don’t know exactly how to make it happen, be sure to take a look at the social media marketing services I offer.
